VIDEO: Jeffrey Herlings beats Americans in Ironman National
There has been a debate in motocross for more than 50 years. There are two championships: the MXGP World Championship and the American AMA National Pro Motocross Championship. Each series has its own group of 40 professional riders who compete against each other. The same question is asked over and over again, who is the better? Is it American or is it European?
Only once a year do the fast men from both camps face each other. That is during the Motocross of Nations. But every now and then the stars align for a battle between the Americans and the Euros. In 2017 we had a duel between Jeffrey Herlings and Eli Tomac and all the other fast men from across the pond. Herlings could no longer claim a new world title, which would go to Antonio Cairoli.
This gave him the idea to participate in a race at the AMA Nationals in the run-up to the American MXGP. A few phone calls were enough to secure a participation in the Ironman National in Crawfordsville, where a certain Eli Tomac was on the title track. This is what happened…
