This is the 2023 Dakar edition
The 45th Dakar Rally starts on December 31 and will be held for the fourth time in Saudi Arabia. In 14 stages it will be decided who will be Sam Sunderland's successor. With this edition, the caravan gets a tough two weeks of sand dunes under its wheels.
The Dakar, which will take place from December 31, 2022 to January 15, 2023, will be 8.549 km long, of which 4.706 km will be covered counter-clockwise. On December 31, a short prologue of 10 km will be held (in Sea Camp) to determine the starting positions for the first stage in line on January 1. The race ends on Sunday January 15 in Dammam. Monday, January 9 is the only day of rest in Riyadh.
The battle of the bikes is, as always, a battle between the top teams such as the KTMs of Kevin Benavides and Matthias Walkner, the GasGas bikes of title holder Sam Sunderland and his teammate Daniël Sanders, the Hondas of Adrien Van Beveren, Ricky Brabec or Pablo Quintanilla, or Skyler Howes' Husqvarna or Lorenzo Santolino's Sherco. But also top performers such as Joan Barreda Bort, Toby Price, Rui Goncalves and Camille Chapeliere. A total of 171 motorcycles will start in the 2023 Dakar. This time there are no Belgians on the list of participants, but there are two Dutch. They are Wesley Aaldering and Mirjam Pol.
