Will 2023 be the year of the Belgians in MX2?
Four Belgian riders on four of the most coveted machines in the paddock will be behind the starting gate of the MX2 World Championship next season. And that is historic!
For several seasons now, Jago Geerts has been the embodiment of our country's return to the forefront of motocross at global level. But the Yamaha rider is no longer alone and that certainly applies to next season. In 2023 he will get one last chance to win that world title before he takes the mandatory step to the MXGP.
After his first full season in MX2, Liam Everts has been offered a job with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team and will be joined by Sacha Coenen. His twin brother Lucas has found refuge with the Husqvarna Negaan factory team.
With four talented Belgians, including a reigning vice champion, riding four official factory machines, we can only look forward to the 2023 season. It will be an exceptional year in the MX2 class.
In the MXGP we will be in the opposite situation because for the first time in a long time only one Belgian will officially participate in the championship. With a JM Racing Honda, Brent Van Doninck should be able to offer us something nice by confirming the very good end to the season in 2022.
In the EMX125 class, Harry Seel and Ian Ampoorter, both riding for the F4E Racing GasGas team, will make their debut in the class.
