MON: MX2 inters title for Jelle Bankers
The last race of the MX2/Open inters class was on the Vossenberg circuit. Mike Bolink Bradley Mesters and Riley Racing Yamaha rider Joël Rizzi, among others, had decided for this occasion to also take a place behind the starting gate. At the MX open inters, the battle was mainly about the honor of the day's victory. Jacky Tausch was already certain of the title and Bram van den Hoek could no longer avoid second place. In the battle for third place, Erik de Bruijn defended a lead of 67 points over Krijn van Vroenhoven and Jeffrey van Kempen followed behind on 18 points.
It was Tausch who took the day's victory ahead of Bolink based on the second moto. Van den Hoek took the last place on the podium of honor in the daily rankings with a fourth and third place at the MX open inters. Van Vroenhoven finished the day fourth and De Bruyn achieved more than enough points with fifth place to end the year in third place in the championship.
In the MX2 inters class the title had yet to be awarded. Jelle Bankers could only miss the title with a disqualification. Behind that, anything could happen in the battle for the remaining podium spots. Jamie Lucas came to Meijel second in the standings with a twelve-point lead over Kevin Buitenhuis. Behind them, Ilja Rutten was 22 points behind Buitenhuis. As might be expected, the day's victory went to Rizzi with two heat victories. With two second place finishes, it was the not entirely satisfied Mesters who took second place. Bankers showed that he was the rightful champion in this class with two third place finishes and was also allowed to reach the podium of honor. Kyle van Zutphen took fourth place with two fourth place finishes in the heats. Kevin Buitenhuis ended the day in fifth place, but has to settle for third place in the title battle. In the championship, Rutten had to settle for fourth place after sixth place in the daily rankings. With a seventh place for the day, Lucas collected enough points to finish second in the title battle.
First heat
It was Teun Cooymans who took the holeshot ahead of van den Hoek, Rizzi, Bolink and Mesters. Rizzi passed van den Hoek on the first pass to take the lead one lap later. Bolink had now also passed van den Hoek to finish third and Rizzi had now taken the lead. One lap later, van den Hoek also saw Mesters pass who started his advance. The role in the top five of the heat was quickly played out for van den Hoek. For a while it was Bankers who came through in fifth, but he was quickly overtaken by Tausch. Rizzi had now taken his lead over Cooymans and went on to win the heat unthreatened. The heat lasted too long for Cooymans and he had to give up more and more places from halfway through the heat. Mesters had already passed Bolink and was the first to pass him, after which Bolink also followed. Mesters managed to keep Bolink behind him and saw the checkered flag in second place. There it was Tausch who passed Cooymans and finished fourth. At the penultimate crossing it was Bankers who took over fifth place and crossed the finish line just behind Tausch and was able to celebrate his championship.
Second heat
Tausch was now the fastest way ahead of Rizzi, van den Hoek, Bolink and Mesters. Tausch and Rizzi quickly turned it into a great battle that was too much for the other and quickly walked away. For van den Hoek it was quickly over in the top five and he saw Bolink, Mesters and Bankers pass him by. Tausch and Rizzi battled for the lead for laps. However, more than halfway through the heat, Rizzi lived up to his status and passed Tausch to ultimately take both the heat and the day victory with a wide lead. In the battle for third place, the first to drop out was Bankers. Just like with Tausch, the lights also went out with Bankers in the final phase of the heat. However, Tausch had enough of a lead and finished the heat in second place. Bolink rode a strong finish to the heat and eventually passed Mesters again to take third place. Mesters followed within a few seconds and well behind it was Bankers who completed the top five in the heat.
