Are you ready for the 'Supercross de Paris'?!
This coming weekend is the Paris Supercross, or 'Supercross de Paris'. The offspring of the well-known 'Supercross de Bercy' among motocross-loving and not-loving! When the 'Bercy' arena closed for renovations, the match took place for several editions in the close and easily accessible location of 'Stade Pierre-Mauroy' in Lille, or Lille, for us "Lowlanders". Meanwhile, supercross is no longer welcome in the renovated Bercy stadium. In addition to that, it also sold its soul, cough we mean its name and now calls the stadium the 'Accor Arena'.
Because the organization wanted to return to Paris by definition, they ended up in the brand new 'Paris La Défense Arena' in 2017, the home base of the Parisian rugby club Racing Métro 92. The stadium is the largest indoor stadium in Europe and therefore the organizers have once again found a renowned stadium to host their famous supercross.
Due to the corona issues, we did not see any editions in 2020 & 2021. They prove that this has not made too big a financial crater for the organization by bringing together a very strong starting field. Unfortunately no Hunter and Jett Lawrence who canceled a few weeks ago. The person who will be heading to Paris is Ken Roczen! In Paris, the German will compete on a Honda against, among others, Cooper Webb (USA – Red Bull KTM), Eli Tomac (USA – Monster Energy Star Yamaha), Justin Brayton (USA – Honda Genuine) and the French home favorite Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM). Although we should never underestimate Cedric Soubeyras (Fra – MM85 CBO Honda) on home soil.
In the SX2 class, the regular suspects from the SX Tour will have competition from two oldies; Chris Blose and Matt Moss. Both will compete for the 9mm Energy Drink Bud Racing Kawasaki. Justin Starling and Cullin Park will also compete in the SX2 class. In addition to a strong line-up in the racing classes, the Paris Supercross can also count on a strong FMX Line-Up. This line-up, we say with some pride, also includes the Belgian Julien Vanstippen. This way, this 'Supercross de Paris' will have a Belgian touch. Because unfortunately we see neither Belgian nor Dutch pilots on the list of participants.
We Belgians and Dutch can watch the Paris Supercross live via mxgp-tv.com for 12,99 euros.
