VIDEO: an ode to the two-stroke
The Red Bull Straight Rhythm that will be held this weekend has been “pre-mix only” since the inception of the event. Only two-strokes and that is why some prominent figures from the motocross world had their say about two-stroke technology.
You could say it was all Yamaha's fault when they came out with their YZM1997 in 400. Doug Henry then surprisingly won the Las Vegas supercross on a four-stroke. But it's not that simple. A change in the rules gave the four-strokes the upper hand in the sport, but the two-strokes remained popular.
It is the ideal machine for learning to ride because you are required to use the powerband correctly. Moreover, two-strokes offer so much fun and they are a lot cheaper to maintain. It is Jef Emig, David Pingree, Grant Langston, Randy Richardson, Travis Pastrana and Mitch Payton who explain how it got to this point and manage to explain their unconditional love for the two-stroke in front of the camera.
So the video below is for the men who shake their jerry can every weekend just before the stuff disappears into the tank of their two-stroke motocross bike. “Mixing gas and kicking ass!
