MSP Sports Capital buys majority stake in X-Games!
MSP Sports Capital, co-owner of McLaren Racing but also owner of the Belgian second division club SK Beveren, has purchased a majority stake in the X-Games. This means that ESPN, which previously owned the majority stake, is handing over day-to-day management.
ESPN will continue to have a small share in the X-Games company, thus securing (for the time being?) the broadcast rights for the American market. For the time being, MSP Sports Capital has not yet made it clear what their plans are for the X-Games. It is clear that it wants to bring the X-Games back to the golden times of the 90s and early 2000s, when Travis Pastrana was a world celebrity. First to become both Freestyle and Motocross champion as a youngster and then to land the double backflip in competition as a slightly older version of himself.
