Vanluchene/Bax win GP in Czech Republic
Marvin Vanluchene and Robbie Bax won the Grand Prix sidecar cross in Kaplice, Czech Republic. In the first heat they came second a few seconds behind Bax/Cermak, in the last heat Vanluchene/Bax managed to win. For example, the Belgian team Vanluchene still took a Grand Prix victory after a troubled season. Bax/Cermak finished first and third and were thus far ahead of World Cup leaders Varik/Kunnas.
In the first heat, Bax/Cermak took the holeshot after slight contact with Vanluchene who started the race in second. Bax/Cermak showed a killer pace that no one could match and won the first heat in Kaplice by force majeure. Vanluchene/Bax were able to follow a little further and were then flagged as second after eight seconds. Hermans/Musset then finished third, more than a minute behind, with Van Werven/Van den Boogaart in fourth and Varik/Kunnas finishing fifth.
In the second heat, Bax/Cermak were surrounded by other sidecars after the start and Vanluchene/Bax saw the opportunity to take the holeshot. Hermans/Musset, however, had other plans and took the lead after a number of laps by cleverly crossing the inside past Vanluchene. Hermans/Musset did not get away from their attackers and when they made a mistake and got stuck on the outside of the track, Vanluchene/Bax were quick to take over the lead again. They then kept the competition at bay and with just under ten seconds ahead of Hermans, Vanluchene/Bax won the second heat and the daily total! Bax/Cermak managed to finish third behind Hermans, ahead of title competitor Varik/Kunnas on four. With this result, Bax/Cermak became second in the daily total, ahead of Hermans/Musset, who would become third in total with a third and second place.
In the World Championship standings, Varik/Kunnas are still in the lead, followed by Bax/Cermak only five points behind. In two weeks it will be determined in Rudersberg, Germany, who will be the 2022 World Sidecar Cross Champion.
