Tim Gajser wins the Turkish GP
After the all-decisive nail-biter in the MX2 class, a second series of MXGP also had to be ridden. That was won by Romain Febvre. The overall victory went to Tim Gajser thanks to a better second series. Jeremy Seewer finished second with an equal points score.
Maxime Renaux had won the first series and was now the first to leave the starting gate. First pursuer Romain Febvre immediately attacked and caught Renaux. The Frenchman of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team also crashed a few corners later and had to restart on the 14de place. Mitch Evans had again started well and immediately put pressure on Febvre.
But then things went wrong and Evans crashed just before a jump and had to leave the match. Febvre remained leader with Jorge Prado and Tim Gajser as pursuers. Seewer and Guadagnini were driving four and five at that moment. The Slovenian world champion was determined to catch Prado and so he did in round eight.
Febvre's lead over Gajser was six seconds with 11 minutes of the match remaining. With Gajser in second place, there was no need to push for the overall victory. He controlled and once again rode a very calculated sequence. Romain Febvre won the second heat with Gajser in second place and a difference of about two seconds. Gajser thus wins the GP of Turkey ahead of Seewer and Febvre. He can look back on a very successful season with a lot of regularity and a deserved fifth world title.
With this race the curtain falls on the 2022 Motocross World Championship. Everyone's attention now turns to the MXoN in Red Bud. The Nations Cup will be held on the weekend of September 24 and 25.
