Reactions to the first FIM Vintage Motocross World Cup in Maggiora
Last weekend Maggiora Park was the place to be for many famous people. Maggiora was a day of sport, entertainment and fun with the legends of motocross. The response from the public was excellent in the opening year of the event, which enjoyed a weekend of summer weather. The FIM Vintage Motocross World Cup wants to become a permanent fixture for fans from all over the world.
One of the most beautiful pages in its history was written this weekend at the Maggiora Park circuit, where the final round of the Italian vintage motocross championship and the first edition of the FIM Vintage World Cup were held. The 290 riders competing for the 21 category titles of the Italian Championship alternated on the track with the legends of the sport, in the new format of the Arma Hero Superfestival, led by the nine-time world champion, Antonio Cairoli and by the legend of the American Supercross, Jeremy McGrath.
After Saturday's performance and the three heats of the Arma Hero Superfestival, Joel Smets, Mike Brown, James Dobb, David Philippaerts, Alessandro Lupino, Doug Dubac, Gautier Paulin and Christophe Pourcell were among the giants of the Sunday morning parade. During the free practice we also saw Michele Rinaldi, Corrado Maddii, Massimo Contini, Michele Fanton, Jacky Vimond, Broc Glover and many other champions.
The public was able to enjoy two days alongside the idols from their childhood and the riders who contributed to the success of Maggiora. The CEO of A Sport Group, the founder of the event, took to the track together with Andrea Dovizioso who retired from MotoGP a week ago.
Stefano Avandero President of A Sport Group: “I had this dream in my drawer for a long time and I wanted to bring back to Maggiora the passion that motocross passed on to me as a child. I wanted to recreate the atmosphere of fun and celebration that captivated me since the late 90s. Today I am happy to see this dream come true, thanks to all the members of Maggiora Park. On this occasion we also wanted to pay tribute to a true motocross fan like Andrea Dovizioso, with a festive jersey, signed and dedicated by all the champions on the circuit. “
Antonio Cairoli: “It was really nice to be here this weekend! As always, Stefano organizes everything to perfection and being able to ride on the track with so many champions and with the myth of my youth, Jeremy McGrath, was a special satisfaction, difficult to describe. Now we're focusing on the Nations in two weeks in America, but after this full immersion of passion, I'm more excited than ever.
Andrea Dovizioso: “The Maggiora shirt with the signature of all these European and American champions was a fantastic gift. It was a dream to be with them and to be among them on and off the track; they made me feel like a real reporter. Stefano then managed to bring all these riders to Maggiora and let us spend three unforgettable days together. “
Jeremy McGrath: “Coming back to Maggiora was really fantastic, being on track with all these past and present champions made this weekend unforgettable. I had a lot of fun and while staying within the limits of safety, we also challenged each other in amusing duels with Cairoli and the other boys, giving the audience emotions and entertainment, even though Stefano and the boys from Maggiora gave me the real gift “
