MXGP Turkey: Maxime Renaux the best in the first series
The first series in the MXGP class has just been held in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey. That was won by a strong riding Maxime Renaux.
No Belgians at the start because Van Doninck's team sent their cat while Van Horebeek recovered from his crash in Saint-Jean-d'Angely. The last competition of the year did not have much excitement in store because the main prize had already been sold to Tim Gajser. However, there was still enthusiasm for third place in the final standings of the World Cup between Jorge Prado, Glenn Coldenhoff and Maxime Renaux. The holeshot was reserved for Yamaha rider Jeremy Seewer. Evans, Renaux and Febvre were the first pursuers.
Just before the end of the first lap, it was Mitch Evans who took over the lead from Seewer. Gajser, who started poorly, was back in P10 after one lap. He rode just behind Jorge Prado, who had also started poorly. In the meantime, a strong Valentin Guillod rode around in a nice fourth place. In the 7de round, Prado hit Coldenhoff with that important third place in mind. A lap later things became even more dramatic for Coldenhoff. A slide caused him to lose a number of places.
Mitch Evans could not hold the lead and had to let Renaux, Seewer and Febvre pass in two laps. Meanwhile, Tim Gajser had gotten over Prado. Febvre also moved up a few places in the wrong direction after a mistake. Meanwhile, Tim Gajser had gotten over Prado. Renaux won the series ahead of Seewer and world champion Tim Gajser, who finished third after a very mediocre start. The second series will follow later at 16 p.m.
