KTM expands the E-mini series with the SX-E 3
The KTM SX-E 3 is the ideal entry-level model for young aspiring riders. With matched power, smaller wheels and a lower seat height, this is the perfect choice for riders who are still finding their feet – and their throttle.
After the success of the KTM SX-E 5 in the European Championship for junior motocross riders, this bike has become a very interesting option for young minicross riders. The sons Kruz and Jagger of Freestyle MX legend Robbie Maddison are also enthusiastic. And then we haven't even mentioned the everyday usability, which Zoe Birch demonstrated when she went out with father Chris.
These accolades have paved the way for the KTM SX-E 3 to take its place as a true entry-level motorcycle. Like the KTM SX-E 5, the KTM SX-E 3 offers the same high-quality and advanced technology as its more powerful counterpart. With the same chrome-molybdenum frame, durable suspension and advanced lightweight construction, the KTM SX-E 3 retains all the hallmarks of a 'big motorcycle', but in a more user-friendly guise.
The KTM SX-E 3 is powered by the same permanent magnet electric motor as the KTM SX-E 5 and has a power of 3,8 kW. The 60 Li-Ion cells have a capacity of 648 Wh in a low 48 V configuration. This results in a driving time of approximately 2 hours between charges.
At the front, 35 mm non-adjustable WP XACT USD forks take care of the bumps, with a suspension travel of 144 mm. At the rear, a WP monoshock is mounted directly on the swingarm, offering 133 mm of travel and perfectly matched to the front forks.
To match its smaller dimensions, the KTM SX-E 3 is equipped with 10-inch black anodized, lightweight aluminum wheels front and rear, wrapped in MAXXIS MX-ST tires. This is in addition to the standard seat height of 600 mm.
The KTM SX-E 3 also features an adjustable seat height, which can be reduced to 555mm by lowering the bodywork/seat, mounting the rear shock absorber in an alternate position and lowering the front fork in the triple clamps. In terms of safety, the KTM SX-E 3 is equipped with a rollover sensor, which cuts off power in the event of a crash or engine overturn. This is aided by a wrist-worn lanyard wrench, which also stops the engine in an uncontrollable driving scenario. Furthermore, the low noise emissions make the KTM SX-E 3 more accessible to younger riders as it is less intimidating and more accepted in areas where noise emissions are limited.
The KTM SX-E 3 can be easily charged thanks to an external charger with a power of up to 900 W. This can be connected to any 110 or 230 volt socket and can be connected directly to the battery pack for easy charging, with a full charge from an empty battery takes about 70 minutes.
