Jett Lawrence is crowned AMA 250 MX Champion for the second time!
Jett Lawrence has just been crowned AMA 250 Outdoor Motocross Champion for the second time. The Australian hardly needed any points, but clearly wanted to finish with a great performance in the very hot Pala, where the Fox Raceway is located!
In the first moto we had a nice duel between Jo Shimoda and Jett Lawrence in which nothing seemed to be decided, until Hunter Lawrence also joined the fight and hit the brakes a little too late in a braking zone, and therefore also a bit " Huck-a-Buck” goes. The eldest Lawrence himself remains upright, but unfortunately he T-boned Jo Shimoda from the bike. Fortunately, the Japanese was able to finish the race in third place on his Kawasaki. For the first place, Hunter Lawrence made an ultimate attempt on the last lap, but it was only an attempt. Jett Lawrence won the first round and the championship! In preparation for the fast approaching MXdN in Red Bud, Frenchman Marvin Musquin also started in this 250 class. The Frenchman competed for a podium place for a long time until some mistakes dropped him to fifth place! In this heat, home pilots have an advantage, just like having a home advantage in Lommel. We already saw that in the first series with, among others, Carson Mumford, who took an impressive tenth place on his Suzuki.
At the start of the second series we immediately saw the determination of Jo Shimoda. The Japanese Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki pilot wanted to show that if the crash with Hunter Lawrence had not occurred, Jett would not have been blessed as the expression goes! There was nothing that could be done about the sympathetic Jo Shimoda, he put everyone ahead of more than half a minute in the very hot Pala. We don't just say that it is bloody hot there, the temperature is above 40° Celsius and that in the shade! In any case, it is a type of weather in which Jett Lawrence also functions well because the brand new champion finished second in this round, ahead of the American MX2 representative at the MXdN Justin Cooper. RJ Hampshire and Hunter Lawrence rounded out the top five. Marvin Musquin finished ninth, between two teenagers, Nate Trasher and Haiden Deegan, who finished eighth and tenth for the Monster Energy Yamaha team.
