Frank Mulders/Aivar v.d.Wiel IMBA Champion Sidecars
The Dutch Frank Mulders and Aivar van der Wiel have become IMBA Sidecar Champions in Armiswil, Switzerland. Mulders was already a multiple IMBA champion, previously with Henry van der Wiel, the father of Aivar van der Wiel. For Aivar, this is his first international title, a crowning achievement for the young baking player whose season was not only based on skill, but also on perseverance.
Things did not go well in Switzerland either in the three series. In the first heat, Van der Wiel dropped out of the whoop section. Undoubtedly, a moment of deja vu went through the minds of all team members of sidecar team Mulders, as earlier this year Van der Wiel had a hard and injured fall! It became clear again that the young Van der Wiel is tough. Getting in and driving further added a few points to the results. The second heat also did not go as desired and with a crash they had to continue as the very last, but at the finish they still finished sixth. In the final third heat they were able to reach the finish in a controlled manner in second place, making Mulders/Van der Wiel European IMBA Sidecar Cross Champion 2022 after a dramatic season!
In the final standings, the Dutch Bens/Van Leuken came third. The first Belgian team is that of De Schepper, who finished sixth in the IMBA Sidecars 2022.
