Diga Procross KTM leaves Motocross World Championship
The German Diga Procross KTM has risen considerably in the Motocross World Championship in recent years. Due to family circumstances, the formation of the Amian family is now forced to throw in the towel. This year Liam Everts and Thomas-Kjer Olsen competed for the factory-supported team.
Very few teams are completely independent or self-sufficient. The health problems of Guido Amian, who suffered a heart attack last week, have a major impact on the successful team. Son Justin has to change his professional priorities as a result. The Diga Procross KTM team manager will from now on focus on Diga Ingenieur GmbH, the family's engineering company.
Since its founding in 2011, the Cologne team has grown year after year. After successes in his own country, strong performances followed in the EMX250, Davy Pootjes rode to the first GP podium in Mantova in 2019. In 2021, Diga won factory status as an official GasGas team with Simon Längenfelder and Isak Gifting. The team invested in a new racing trailer for 2022.
The withdrawal of Diga Procross also comes as a bolt from the blue for the Coenen brothers. Lucas and Sacha were in advanced discussions with the team for next season. There will probably soon be clarity about the plans of Lucas and Sacha Coenen.
Justin Amian (photo below): “It is with regret that I have to make this decision. But reality leaves me no choice but to take on my responsibility in the management of Diga Ingenieur. This challenge cannot be combined with leading a World Cup team at a high level. My intention is to one day return to the Motocross World Championships, but at the moment it is not yet clear how and when that will be.”
In concrete terms, this means that Diga Procross KTM will withdraw from the paddock after the MX of Nations in Red Bud. It is not yet possible to estimate how long Diga will disappear from top level, but the Amian family will continue to support motorsport. The newly established Diga Academy, which guides talented youth riders, will go further.
The mxmag editorial team wishes Guido Amian a speedy recovery and wishes Justin good luck with his new challenge. The loss of Diga Procross KTM is also inconvenient for the Motocross World Championship. It appears that 114 Motorsport, JT911 KTM and SDM Corse will also no longer return to the GP paddock before 2023.
