Bax wins heat 1, now Varik and Bax equal in World Cup standings!
Etienne Bax/Ondrej Cermak won the first heat of the final GP in Rudersberg. Vannluchene/Bax finished a distant second and World Cup leader Varik/Kunnas finished third. This means that Bax and Varik are now exactly equal in World Cup points.
Bax/Cermak took the holeshot and rode a killer pace. More than half an hour later, Bax became a dominant heat winner, albeit with a battered helmet. Vanluchene was second and took this position home in no man's land. Behind this it was more exciting. Brown/Chamberlain rode three but dropped back to five and had to leave the fighting Varik and Van Werven alongside. In the second part of the race Brown apparently found new breath as he rode to third again with Varik in fourth and Van Werven in fifth. Van Werven had to give up some ground, but Varik, on the other hand, went on the attack in the final phase and regained third place at the corner! So Varik finished third, Brown fourth and Van Werven fifth.
This means that Bax/Cermak and Varik/Kunnas are immediately equal in points and both in the World Championship lead with one heat to go!
