Riding technique: Is a foot on the footrest faster when cornering?
You know it. In a bend you extend the leg on the inside of the bend to provide some kind of safety if the bike breaks away. But you can also keep your foot on the footrest. And is that also faster?
The video states that the technique of cornering with the inside foot on the support is new, but it is clearly not. Just think of Stefan Everts who was a master in this type of cornering technique at the time. What is true: cornering with the foot on the support is becoming increasingly popular and that is why the video provides a fairly scientific analysis of both techniques.
Sticking your leg out in a turn has been pretty much standard since motocross came into existence. It is the natural way to build in safety when cornering, dictated by your brain. They see a potential danger and instruct the leg to seek support. In addition, you also transfer a little more weight to the front of the motorcycle, which ensures more stability in the corners.
This also means that it is a matter of mental strength not to apply this technique and to keep your foot on the support. But which method is the fastest? You will get it explained in detail in the video below.
