Will Tim Gajser win his fifth world title in Finland?
Slovenian Honda rider Tim Gajser can now win his fifth world title on Sunday, August 14. He currently has a lead of 115 points over first pursuer Jeremy Seewer.
If Gajser has 101 points left after the race in Hyvinkää, he can uncork the champagne and join the select circle of drivers with at least five world titles. These are Jeffrey Herlings, Antonio Cairoli, Joël Smets, Eric Geboers, Georges Jobé, Roger De Coster, Joël Robert and Stefan Everts.
Tim Gajser won his first world title in 2015 in the MX2 class. In 2016, 2019 and 2020 he won the MXGP title. If he becomes world champion this year, he will be the ninth rider in history to achieve this feat. It will be quite a journey for Gajser's horde of supporters because next weekend there will be the GP of Finland. This will be followed by the GP of France on August 21 in St Jean d'Angely and the GP of Turkey on September 4 in Afyonkarahisar.
