Jorge Prado on his health problems
Everyone could see for a while that Jorge Prado is not really the Prado we know. The Spaniard can set fast laps, but he is currently unable to perform at a high level for an entire series. Now we know why. He had to deal with a second corona infection, which had a major impact.
The bookmakers had listed him as a candidate world champion at the start of the 2022 season, but that was not really reflected in the hard figures. Prado was good but not good enough to compete for a possible world title. He is currently third in the standings, but Glenn Coldenhoff is hot on his heels with a small difference of four points.
Jorge Prado: "I'm good, speed-wise, but I'm not that healthy at the moment. Since I had COVID in Lommel, I have been having a very difficult time. I don't like riding in the positions I'm riding in now, but there's not much I can do anymore. It's okay for one lap, as you see in the timed workouts. I just don't have one hundred percent of my capabilities during the series. I felt very good physically in the week before Lommel, but now COVID has got me. I'm having a hard time – hopefully things will get a little better."
"I didn't sleep at all from Saturday to Sunday and then I went racing in Lommel. I took a corona test when I got back home and it was positive, so I couldn't drive for a week. I then slowly started training again and rode for Sweden for two days. I come to the Grands Prix to give 100 percent, but I'm just not healthy. It has nothing to do with training – it's just a bit of bad luck. Especially at this point in the season! I can't do much."
