Jett Lawrence Wins Ironman National, Takes Option on AMA MX 250cc Title!!
Jett Lawrence, with some help from his competitors, was able to become champion in the AMA 250cc Outdoor Motocross class today. Unfortunately for him, his main competitor in the fight, Jo Shimoda, did not make any major mistakes.
In the first heat we saw Nate Trasher take the holeshot, the Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing pilot did far from bad and remained in the lead until halfway through the race! A lower start Jett Lawrence had to work and slowly rose from outside the top six to second place, a second place that he exchanged halfway through the race for the lead in the race. His rival for the title Jo Shimoda got off to an even worse start than Jett and found himself outside the top ten in the first round. The Pro Circuit Monster Energy Kawasaki pilot eventually rose to fifth place. This is behind RJ Hampshire, Hunter Lawrence and Nate Trasher.
At the start of the second series it was actually notoriously bad starter Jo Shimoda who took the lead after just a few meters. The Japanese Kawasaki pilot would never relinquish the lead in the race. For second place we got a fight between Justin Cooper and Hunter Lawrence that was settled in the Australian's favor. Justin Cooper, in turn, also had to let the other Lawrence, Jett Lawrence, pass in the final phase. He had a disastrous start and managed to secure his final victory in the Ironman National with a third place and with a 41 point lead over Jo Shimoda, the youngest of the Lawrence brothers has now really taken a big option on the title. All others have been counted out for the title. The top five in the second moto was completed by RJ Hampshire and Justin Cooper.
For the day's victory, Jett Lawrence was ahead with 45 points, Jo Shimoda with 41 points and brother Hunter Lawrence with 40 points!
