GasGas is now also entering MotoGP
From 2023, the iconic Spanish motorcycle brand will join the hustle and bustle of MotoGP for the first time with a deal that will see the Tech3 factory team turn completely crimson. The renowned GasGas team will be equipped with MotoGP technology and will put the machines in the hands of Pol Espargaro for the Grand Prix races around the world, with a second rider to be confirmed shortly.
Fame in Trials and Enduro quickly turned to motocross, supercross and rally success in recent years with an extensive base of off-road production bikes. And now – after tasting the spoils in both the Moto3™ and Moto2™ classes – the brand is ready for the next step: MotoGP.
The popular 31-year-old Espargaro will also bring some of GasGas' Iberian heritage to their first MotoGP ride. The brand will become the sixth brand in MotoGP for 2023, but has already strengthened its presence over the past two seasons with Grand Prix victories and podium finishes in Moto3 and Moto2, thanks to the excellent performance of the GasGas Aspar team.
Pit Beirer, GasGas Motorsports Director: “GasGas is a winning brand. It has immediately reached incredible levels of performance in disciplines such as MXGP, Supercross, Enduro and Rally, where we have captured Grands Prix, Main Events, world titles and overall winners' trophies. It's a relatively new brand for us and we have new goals. We hope that the fans who follow 'the red' will enjoy the story. Thanks to our strong partner, the ASPAR team, we have seen in Moto3 and Moto2 that the GasGas bikes are at the front in those categories. It would be great to eventually see the same in the toughest class of them all. I would like to thank Hervé and the Tech3 factory racing team for their open attitude and support for this change to the GasGas factory racing team. We find it exciting and different."
Hubert Trunkenpolz, Member of the Board of Directors, CMO: “Making the GasGas name bigger and broader than its roots in Trial has been really successful in a number of ways. After seeing what we could achieve in Moto3 and Moto2, the next question was whether we could bring GasGas to MotoGP and we are very happy to be able to make this step. It's a new journey and I know the brand will immediately stand out. Importantly, the team, drivers and management will help GasGas take a leap forward in the top class. That's what we hope for!"
