Kay De Wolf demonstrates in MX2 opener
In an exciting first MX2 round, Kay De Wolf was the strongest ahead of home favorite Jago Geerts. De Wolf, who started 4th, was by no means given the victory. However, the way in which the Husqvarna rider cleaved through Lommel made a big impression. Liam Everts - long third - finally achieved a nice 5th place.
Jago Geerts raced to his second holeshot of the season. Geerts was too fast for teammate Benistant. However, the Frenchman immediately took over command and had Van De Moosdijk and Geerts following him. The returning Van de Moosdijk was given a taste of the lead, but was quickly turned back by Geerts.
In the meantime, De Wolf went on a rampage. In less than three laps he was in Geerts' wheel. The confrontation between Geerts and De Wolf caused high tension. Kay, however, had some better lines and was slightly more eager. After starting in seventh position, Everts successively dealt with Längenfelder, Benistant and Van de Moosdijk. A third place was within his reach, but due to a mistake Liamski tumbled back to P6. When Van De Moosdijk in turn crashed, Everts finally finished 5th.
After a dramatic qualifying race, things were not going well for Tom Vialle. The ex-MX2 world champion crashed twice, leaving him only 7th. Given the very summery temperature of more than 30°C and the difficult condition of the circuit, the second round promises to be a real battle.
