Jeremy Van Horebeek will retire from motocross at the end of 2022
It was “talk of the town” in the Lommel paddock last weekend and now it is official. Jeremy Van Horebeek will end his career as an active motocross rider at the end of this year.
Van Horebeek became vice world champion in 2014 when he was part of Michele Rinaldi's Yamaha team. He then had to give up on a very strong Antonio Cairoli. The Grand Prix of Belgium was not a high-flyer for “The Jerre”. He wasn't feeling well and had to give up. Van Horebeek has been selected for the Motocross of Nations this year together with Liam Everts and Jago Geerts. That may be his last race as a professional motocross rider.
Jeremy Van Horebeek via social media"Here it is today is a beautiful day, it took me a lot of effort to write this but at the end of this season I will be quitting the sport I love so much. I've thought about it a lot and it's the right time to say goodbye to 17 years of Motocross World Championships! As a child it was already a dream to achieve this and even though I didn't break all the records, I think I can be very proud of what I have achieved. Becoming world champion was always the big dream and unfortunately I didn't succeed, but with a 3rd place in the MX2 class and a vice world title in the MXGP class, all those beautiful podium places every time I was allowed to represent my country at the Motocross of Nations, all those great battles on the track with the best riders in the world, riding for all those great factory teams and working with so many great people is one of the best things that happened to me and something I look back on with my head held high and will never forget!
Racing is the only thing I know, day in and day out my life revolved around racing, but after this season it is time for a new chapter in my life together with my wife and two wonderful sons! I am so grateful to everyone who helped me achieve this! First of all, my parents who sacrificed everything from day one, the teams, the people I worked with and most of all you my fans! I thank you very much for all the love and support I have received over the past 17 years! Also a special word of thanks to @sdm_corse_official and @betamotor1905 for the last two years! "
