World Supercross Championship without age limit in MX2
SX Global, the Australian sports and entertainment company that will organize the brand new FIM World Supercross Championship, today announced that there will be no age limit for the MX2 class.
This means that it will be an open format for the class and therefore offers significantly more freedom and flexibility for teams and drivers. So at the end of this WSX World Cup, as it will be called, there will be two world champions to celebrate.
Until now, there was only an official supercross world championship for 450cc riders in supercross. The 250cc riders have never before competed for the official status of “FIM World Champion”. That all changes with the upcoming season with the impending WSX competition.
Adam Bailey from SX Global: "We want to ensure that the best talent in the world competes in the 250cc class and to achieve this we are opening the class to all riders, regardless of age or past success. There are countless examples of restrictions in the 250cc class that have driven top talents out of the sport or into compromising scenarios that hinder their careers and earning potential. We want to make sure we do everything we can to give supercross athletes the best possible career opportunities and longevity. The interest of the rider is central to SX Global's mission and we believe this is the right move for the sport and its competitors."
