VMCF Moresnet: Win in classic for Stijn Verstrepen
Twenty-five Inters behind the startable on Pentecost Monday for the 58th edition of the Motocross de Moresnet. The stalwarts of the VMCF could expect opposition from an (albeit limited) AMPL delegation.
Regional rider Frédéric Weigert had the best start in the first heat. He initially led for Verstrepen, Colson, Houche, and Gabriel. Mark Boot followed at the very back, but had already started a spectacular recovery that would still take him to fourth place. Just after the halfway mark, Weigert had to let go and Verstrepen took over the lead. Someone who also managed to work his way forward was Dietger Damiaens. The endurist, who rode a dirt bike for the occasion, would finish a nice second. However, the series victory went to Verstrepen.
In the second heat Verstrepen was at a loss. The man from Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Waver would be in the lead from start to finish. Behind him, Delbrasinne and Jérémy Coen played leapfrog for second place, a battle that turned out in the former's favor. Damiaens disappeared from the match early on and Boot would no longer play a significant role.
Stijn Verstrepen was therefore the logical final winner and also winner of the Inters 500 cc. Frédéric Weigert was the best in the quarter liters.
