Tim Gajser and Jeremy Seewer divide the loot
Man in form Jeremy Seewer -GP winner in France- was untouchable in the second round of the German GP. World Championship leader Tim Gajser (1-2), on the other hand, recorded his 40th GP victory of his career. Due to the absence of the injured Maxime Renaux, the Slovenian now has a whopping 101 points lead over the second, Jeremy Seewer.
Seewer steered his YZ450FM into the holeshot and then put together the perfect race. Chaser Tim Gajser, away in third after Jorge Prado, tried to hunt down the little Swiss, but he didn't budge and treated the public to a hard-track driving course. Like many riders, rival 'Tiga' rode with the necessary safety margin on the difficult circuit.
Pauls Jonass, second in the opener, could speak about the treacherous character of the Talkessel. The Husqvarna factory rider crashed on the first lap but recovered to P7. Jorge Prado rode an anonymous race in third position while Calvin Vlaanderen (Gebben Van Venrooy Yamaha) recorded an excellent 4th place ahead of Ruben Fernandez. An encouraging result for Flanders, who achieved a 7th place after several inferior GPs.
Fernandez came within a few points of his second podium of the season, although in the end he had to give up on compatriot Jorge Prado (7-3). Kawasaki's Romain Febvre can look back with satisfaction on an excellent first competition in seven months. Thanks to a 4-7 score, Romain finished 5th in the final standings.
After three consecutive podiums in the last three GPs, things were getting tougher for Glenn Coldenhoff in Germany. The Hoff (10-8) had to settle for 9th place in the final standings. Jeremy Van Horebeek (SDM Corse Beta) had crashed in the first heat but took revenge well in the recovery. The Jerre (photo below) finished neatly 9th, less than 2 seconds behind Coldenhoff. Brent Van Doninck (15-12) finished 13th. For Brian Bogers - recovering from illness - and Davy Pootjes, 18th and 29th respectively, the German GP was one to quickly forget.
