Seewer beats Prado, strong Van Doninck third
Taking full advantage of Gajser's crash at the start was not really an option for his rivals. Jeremy Seewer rode a hell of a race. It resulted in his first series victory of the season for Jorge Prado and the surprising Brent Van Doninck!
Jorge Prado raced for the 10de return to the holeshot this season. The big news, however, was the massive crash in the first corner behind the Spaniard. Evans, Jonass as well as Gajser, Coldenhoff, Vlaanderen and Renaux went down. Prado didn't let it bother him and ran away. However, he got Seewer after him. The GasGas factory rider was in command from the first to the penultimate lap. Seewer saw his chance with two laps to go and easily pulled away from his rival.
Just like yesterday, pole sitter Jacobi and Brent Van Doninck were also in good rhythm. Jacobi was third for a long time, but Van Doninck eventually took P3 ahead of Jacobi. Immediately the first top-3 in the MXGP for Brent and the Dutch Riley Racing Yamaha.
After a tumultuous race - two falls and one trip off the track over a hay bale - Gajser was able to claim a valuable fifth place. All in all a more than decent result considering his 15de place in the first round.
The regular Jeremy Van Horebeek was also satisfied. He sent his Beta RX450 to P6. The loser of the opening race was Maxime Renaux. The runner-up in the World Championship standings finished 9th, 46 seconds behind the winner. One of the most impressive overtaking races was delivered by Pauls Jonass. The Standing Construct Husqvarna pilot was only the last to get back on the road and still crossed the line in 11th!
The second heat will take place at 17:10 PM.
