Romain Febvre starts in Teutschenthal
The French vice world champion had previously announced that he would try to start in Ernée, but that turned out to be a week too early. Today the Kawasaki Racing Team reported that he will start in Teutschenthal next weekend.
Febvre suffered a tibia fracture during the Supercross in Paris at the end of last year and had to undergo surgery again afterwards to promote bone growth. During this operation, bone was transferred from the hip to the fracture in the tibia.
After a number of promising training sessions in recent weeks, it has been decided to compete again. “There has been a lot of bad news over the last few months, but now I have good news and I am so happy to announce that I will be back behind the fence this weekend. I haven't ridden much yet because I've only been training for two and a half weeks, but the feeling with the bike is already very good so it's time to start racing again. As I explained before, the doctor told me that I will sometimes feel some pain but that it is acceptable".
"I'm going to Germany without a specific goal because I haven't ridden with other top riders in recent weeks; I would have liked to ride with Ben Watson, but after his crash in Spain he was unable to train last week. We never stopped working on my fitness program even when I couldn't ride the bike so physically I'm ready and I think my speed will be okay but it will definitely be harder to keep up the speed at first to maintain it for the entire duration of the heats. But we have to start somewhere. I'm not at 100% yet, but because I have a good feeling on the bike and we've had some good training, it's time to go and it was better to start back in Germany than wait for Indonesia,” said Febvre.
