MON: Jippe Selen also wins on the home circuit
Jippe Selen again achieved the day's victory in the MX 2 youth class last weekend. On his home circuit in Venlo, Selen was again by far the strongest and won both heats. As one week earlier, second place went to Sjef Platte, who was crowned “best of the rest” with two second places in the heats. With a sixth and third place in the heats, Belgian Troy Dendooven finished third in the daily classification, his first podium of the season in this class. German Henry Hauswirth finished fourth and Bob Freriks completed the top five.
First heat
It was Alex van Weerdenburg who was in the lead at the first crossing of the finish line ahead of Platte, Roger Ponsa, Freriks and Alex Blokland. On the first full lap, Platte took over the lead and Ponsa made a mistake and fell outside the top five. It was now Selen who entered the top five and immediately worked his way up to third place. In the next lap Selen also passed van Weerdenburg and then quickly took over the lead from Platte. Van Weerdenburg fell back a few places and it was now Freriks who was in third place ahead of Blokland and Hauswirth. Blokland soon had to leave fourth place to Hauswirth, who then started chasing Freriks. Halfway through, Selen was comfortably in the lead ahead of Platte. Behind this was Freriks, a few seconds behind Hauswirth. Blokland saw van Weerdenburg pass him by again in the battle for fifth place. Selen won the heat with a 45 second lead over Platte. Well behind, Freriks finished third, closely behind Hauswirth. Van Weerdenburg followed after about eight seconds, who just managed to keep Dendooven and Blokland behind him.
Second heat
It was Selen who made it easier as usual and immediately took the holeshot ahead of van Weerdenburg, Siem Ermers, Dendooven and Platte. Platte passed Dendooven in the first lap and Ermers quickly fell back. Hauswirth now finished fifth. As a result, with the exception of Freriks, the same names were again at the front as in the first heat. Freriks' place in the top five was now taken by Dendooven, who was in fourth place. Van Weerden Burg managed to maintain second place for a few laps, but had to leave it to Platte. After this, van Weerdenburg quickly fell back outside the top five. Selen took the lead by a large margin ahead of Platte. He was followed within a few seconds by Dendooven. Ten seconds behind, Ponsa passed Hauswirth and van Weerdnburg and now finished fourth ahead of Hauswirth and van Weerdenburg. This meant that the front positions were taken for this round and this did not change even though the differences between them were now smaller. Selen won the heat, followed by Platte at twenty seconds. Dendooven managed to stay with Platte for a long time. Ultimately, he followed eight seconds behind Platte in third place. Well behind, Ponsa saw the checkered flag in fourth place, a few seconds behind Hauswirth.
