MON: Britt van der Werff strikes an important blow
At MX Park Zaarderheiken, Britt van der Werff did good business in the battle for the championship in the women's class. Van der Werff took the full spoils with two heat victories and took full advantage of the absence of Lianne Muilwijk and took a lead of 74 points over Kimberly Braam in the championship. Based on the second heat, it was Amber Simons who managed to take second place in the daily rankings ahead of Jenitty van der Beek. Braam achieved fourth place in the daily rankings, but she moved up to second place in the championship. The top five was completed by Kaylee van Dam with a sixth and fifth place in the heats.
First heat
It was Van der Beek who was the fastest ahead of van der Werff, Simons, Braam and van Dam. Due to a small mistake, Van Dam quickly fell back and it was Cynthia Swets who took over fifth place. Simons had already passed van der Werff and was in second place. Swets had to leave fifth place to Angela Lageman one lap later. Simons rode a strong first part of the heat and also managed to pass van der Beek to take the lead. However, halfway through the heat things went wrong for Simons and she fell back to third place. Van der Werff had passed van der Beek and was thus given the lead. Until then, Angela Lagman had held on well in fifth place, but she also ran into problems and fell back. Swets was passed by Daniëlle van Kempen in the battle for fifth place. The differences at the front had now been made and van der Werff won the heat ahead of van der Beek and Simons. Braam rode a stable race and her fourth place was therefore not in danger. The battle for fifth place was decided two laps before the finish. Van Kempen saw both Swets and Van Dam pass by again and it was Swets who decided this battle in her favor.
Second heat
Once again Van der Beek was the fastest ahead of Simons, van Dam, Braam and van der Werff. It quickly became apparent that a small mistake had been made quickly on the circuit, which had become heavy due to rainfall. Both Simons and van Dam fell back slightly. As a result, Van Kempen finished fifth for a few laps. Van der Werff passed Braam and van der Beek and again took the lead ahead of van der Beek and Braam. Simons was in fourth place and Van Dam came in sixth. Van der Werff won the heat, but she had to be careful of Simons who came close behind her and fought back to second place. Van der Beek now saw the checkered flag in third place. More than 45 seconds behind, it was Braam again who finished fourth. She was followed by van Dam who had already passed van Kempen halfway through the heat.
