EMX65/85 Kaplice: young Belgians on qualifying race!
BMB representative Robert Gielis was in Kaplice last weekend. The Czech round of the EMX65/85 NW zone was the penultimate. So it will be exciting for our youth riders because only the first eight are directly qualified for the grand final in Loket. Robert wrote the following report.
On Friday, during the administrative and technical inspection, everything went smoothly and as expected. The circuit in Kaplice was in excellent condition. The sun was also present. In the evening, however, a heavy thunderstorm broke out over the region. The jury therefore decided to adjust the Saturday program. It only started at noon, and the national side series were canceled. Later this turned out to be the right decision, because the training and competitions went smoothly on a very passable track.
65cc: Leading role for Teunis Spijkerman
There were 38 pilots present, so everyone was placed directly for the main program. The Dane Thorius proved to be the fastest in the qualifying race. “Our” Torre Van Mechgelen finished 7thde. Sacha Goblet came 12de inside and Noam Mezzavilla scored 29th .
1e series:
The leading start from the Dutchman Teunis Spijkerman (photo above). However, the Finn Laaksonen would soon take over the lead and not relinquish it. Torre Van Mechgelen (photo below) has been struggling with his starts lately. This time again. The first time they crossed the line, Torre was on the 26e place. Sacha Goblet on the 18de place and Noam Mezzavilla actually on 13de place. Torre then gave chase, which resulted in an 11th place at the finish. Sacha moved nicely to 7de place at some point. There the pace was still a bit too high for the young Waal, he dropped back to a nice 14de place. Noam was unable to capitalize on his good start due to a crash and rode to a 21e place, just outside the points.
2e series:
Now the Dane Thorius took the holeshot. Torre fell back into his bad habit. Only about 3 riders turned behind him in the first corner. Sacha had a good start, ninth. Noam was 23e started. He quickly made a mistake which was a 26th earned a place in the 2de series. Sacha Goblet now dropped back a little faster and exceeded 18de the finish. Torre showed that, despite his bad starts, he has the speed of the top players. On 1 lap he moved from 34 to 18. After that he passed drivers every lap, which was a 10de earned a place in the 2de series.
85cc: Doensen victory, Lucas best Belgian
In the 85cc there were 44 riders present, so they were divided into 2 groups. Our Belgian riders had no problem qualifying. Maxim Lucas even won the race in his group by a wide margin.
1e series:
The Dutchman Dean Gregoire took the holeshot and did not relinquish it until the finish. Jarne Bervoets (photo below) and Ian Ampoorter were both in the top 5 at the start, Maxim Lucas turned 13de in the first corner and Tyla Van de Poel in the middle of the pack. Douwe Van Mechgelen was 4th at the start, but came very last during the first passage (40th) by half a lap of its predecessor. Douwe, however, fought back very well, but it only earned him a handful of points. However, his lap times were top. Jarne and Ian fought close to each other at the top of the peloton, which even led to a collision between the two teammates, fortunately without physical damage. Ian still got 5de inside and Jarne 7de. Maxim Lucas also moved into the top ten and finished 8thth flagged off. Despite his poor start, Tyla still came in 9thde within.
2de series:
Now Maxim Lucas was the first Belgian to start (3de). Douwe was at 6, Tyla at 10 and Jarne at 16. Ian was like 15de started but made a mistake which resulted in him being ranked 36th could start again. Maxim rode a solid race and came 4thde inside. Douwe could now show that he belongs to the top and finished 6thde On. Jarne rode to 8th and Tyla to 10th. Ian Ampoorter had not given up hope and came 16thde within.
On to the final
Next weekend is the last match for the qualification for the European Championship finals in Velke Uherce, Slovakia; beautiful circuit. In 65cc, Torre Van Mechgelen is certainly still in the running for direct qualification for the European Championship finals in Loket (Czech Republic). He will have to make better starts to be sure, as he has already proven that in terms of speed he is on par with the top riders in this class.
In 85cc Maxime Lucas (photo above) is a good 3rdde in the standings of the rankings, Ian Ampoorter 6e, Tyla Van de Poel 7de, Douwe Van Mechgelen 8th and Jarne Bervoets 9de. The first 8 are assured of direct qualification. We still have to fight here and we dare to hope that our 5 riders will qualify directly for the final at the end of June in Loket.
