Elzinga shows character and De Wolf his class
Despite a badly affected body after a serious flu, Rick Elzinga took the title in the KNMV Dutch Masters of Motocross 250cc. The Yamaha rider finished fourth during the final in Rhenen and that is more than enough. Kay de Wolf is in a class of his own and he wins both heats without many problems. Andrea Bonacorsi crosses the finish line in second place ahead of Lucas Coenen in both heats.

Despite less time training, Lucas Coenen got off to a very good start. The Belgian wins the Ecomaxx Holeshot Award, but he quickly sees Husqvarna colleagues Grau and De Wolf pass. The Frenchman briefly takes the lead, but De Wolf leaves no doubt about it. The 17-year-old rider breaks free and wins with a safe lead. Coenen has been in second place for a long time, but Bonacorsi needs to get into the rhythm. After the Italian passes his teammate Dave Kooiker, Bonacorsi manages to close his gap to Coenen. The first attack is a success and Bonacorsi comes second ahead of Coenen and Kooiker. Marcel Conijn had a great race there, the Terschelling native crossed the finish line in fifth place ahead of Elzinga. However, he has to deal with a big disappointment because he receives a five-place penalty. His machine makes too much noise and he receives a penalty that puts him in eleventh place!
2e some
Due to the heat, the competition management has decided to shorten the matches by 5 minutes. Elzinga enters the final round with a 14-point lead and must therefore finish in the top ten this round. Coenen makes the best start and he wins the Ecomaxx Holeshot Award again. Romano Aspers follows and he brutally takes the lead. The Limburger comes out of the first round as leader, but a little later De Wolf takes over the best position. De Wolf wins for Bonacorsi, who now manages to catch up with Lucas Coenen in the last five minutes. Elzinga drives a smart race and he finishes fourth, which is enough for the title. Kooiker completes the top five in this last round ahead of Bradley Mesters who has a great battle with Sander Agard-Michelsen.
Next time:
The championship is over, the new champion has been announced. The riders will focus on the remaining EMX and World Championship competitions. The KNMV will, and must, work for this championship in 2023. We can say that this strong series has lost a lot of allure after two seasons without competitions.
