Kay De Wolf's unlucky day
After his strong 1-1 performance during the Dutch Masters in Rhenen last weekend, Kay De Wolf continued the line in Indonesia on Saturday with a strong qualifying race and fought for victory. De Wolf was in the front, but had to settle for sixth place due to a fall. Today the Nestaat Husqvarna Factory Racing found it difficult to defend their chances. Like some other riders, he had become ill during the night.
The Dutch super talent had to throw up several times in the morning. He decided not to ride in the warmup to save his energy. In terms of speed, he nevertheless performed well in the first moto. De Wolf rode comfortably in third place, before a few crashes threw a spanner in the works. He eventually finished eighth.
Despite his health problems, he still scored a lot of points and really gave everything he had. However, Kay had to go so far for this that it was decided not to participate in the second round. The disease had simply taken too much of him.
Kay DeWolf : “Unfortunately I woke up sick this morning, I threw up a few times and felt really weak. I tried to save all my energy by not riding the warm-up. My start in the first moto was very good, but because my body felt so empty I couldn't hold my position and I made too many mistakes. After the first moto I decided not to ride in the second moto. I went to the doctor at the circuit and was given an IV to combat the dehydration symptoms. It is what it is and we are now going to recover for the next race. Thank you to my team for their efforts!”
Rasmus Jorgensen (Nestan Husqvarna Factory Racing team manager): “It is of course disappointing to have to suffer even more bad luck, but Kay's health comes first. Not starting in the second moto was the best decision considering how sick he was. It was great to see his speed in the first moto. We will focus on converting that into a strong result in the next round!”
