VMCF Axel: Boot and Aerden at the party
In the 500cc, there was no match for home rider Mark Boot in Zeeland, who won both heats. He was flanked on the podium by Mattéo Puffet and Stijn Verstrepen. Brent Aerden was the deserved winner in the quarter liters ahead of Marnik Lagrou and Michael Bruyninckx.
In the combined Inters 250/500 races, 28 riders traveled to Axel. In addition to the regulars in the VMCF, a number of guest riders from VLM and with Ken De Dycker, a former GP top rider had also traveled to Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.
Boat for Aerden
However, 'Local Hero' Mark Boot would give little, or rather nothing, to the mainly Belgian opposition. De Zeeuw won both rounds and was therefore the winner of the day at the Inters 500. The only one who could come close to sandmaster Boot during the first round was VLM's Brent Aerden. Despite a poor start, the 250cc rider only had to give up 3.5 seconds to Boot. Third place also went to a VLM member, with Mike Vanderstraeten. Dennis Wagemans and Mattéo Puffet completed the top 5.
Demonstration Mark Boot
Aerden was also 'best of the rest' in the second heat, although he now had to give up more than 10 seconds to Boot. Puffet finished third, more than half a minute behind the winner from Zeeland. It says something about the speed (average 53,75 km/h) that Boot managed to develop on the RES circuit! Stijn Verstrepen became 4e at almost 40 seconds and thus preceded Romain Delbrasinne. After a 7th place in race one, Marnick Lagrou now finished 6th, taking second place overall in the 250cc.
