Vlaeymans is Maessen's boss in Rhenen
Jan Vlaeymans won the fifth race of the KNMV Open Dutch Quad Championship on the "Kwintelooyen" circuit. Thanks to a second and first place, he took home the day's victory ahead of Joe Maessen (1-2) and Rick Haverdil (photo) finished third in both rounds. No changes in the standings, Maessen is six points ahead of Vlaeymans.
First heat
Maessen is the fastest man in training and he also takes the best start during the first heat. Haverdil follows and takes the lead on the first lap. Sem Ende follows in second place ahead of the Belgian Vlaeymans. After setting the pace, Haverdil is passed by Maessen and Vlaeymans takes over third place from Ende. Vlaeymans' deficit to Haverdil is quickly cleared by the Yamaha rider and he passes the CRQF rider. Maessen is in the lead, but Vlaeymans is getting closer. The Limburger sees the danger and manages to hold the lead until the finish. Vlaeymans comes second ahead of Haveril. Ricardo Phoelich started the race outside the top ten but is working his way up to fourth place. This is briefly lost to Marc de Vries, but in the last lap Phoelich comes back and he still finishes fourth ahead of De Vries.
Second heat
Maessen also takes the best start in the second round ahead of Haverdil. This soon comes under pressure from Vlaeymans and Haverdil has to make way. Vlaeymans then managed to make up for his deficit to Maessen and took the lead just in the first half of the match. Maessen cannot keep up with the pace and ends up second, eight seconds behind the winner. Haverdil is now good for third place, followed by Ruben van Lith and Phoelich now crosses the finish line in fifth place.
The championship will continue on Whit Monday, which will take place on circuit “De Vennebulten” in Varsseveld.
