Van der Werff benefits from the fall of Muilwijk and Simons
Last weekend the fifth competition of this year was scheduled for the women's class in Gemert. On the Wolfsbosch circuit it was Britt van der Werff who managed to take the day's victory after a fall from both Lianne Muilwijk and Amber Simons. After a fourth place in the first heat, she managed to win the second heat. Based on the second round, she thus kept Lianne Muilwijk behind her, who won the first round, but did not progress further than fourth place in the second round.
The battle for the lowest step on the podium was also decided on the basis of the second heat. This went after Kimberly Braam who, after a third place in the first moto, also benefited from the fall of Muilwijk and Simons and achieved a second place in the second moto. The grapes were extra sour for Simons and she fell just outside the podium with fourth place. With two fifth places in the heats, fifth place in the daily rankings went to Kaylee van Dam.
First heat
It was Muilwijk who was the best ahead of Simons, Van der Werff Swets and Braam. It was soon Braam who moved up one place at the expense of Swets. Differences were quickly made at the front. Muilwijk ran away from Simons and she quickly regained the lead over Van der Werff and Braam who were battling for third place. A little further behind, the battle for fifth place took place between Swets and van Dam. Halfway through the heat it was Van Dam who first passed Swets and in the next lap it was Braam who managed to pass Van der Werff. Simons almost managed to close the gap to Muilwijk in the final phase, but still had to be satisfied with second place. Braam followed well behind at ten seconds, followed by van der Werff. Well behind, van Dam had pulled away from Swets and crossed the finish line in fifth place.
Second heat
It was now van der Werff with the best start ahead of Braam, van Dam, van Kempen and Swets. Muilwijk and Simons had fallen at the start and had to start a catch-up race from the back. It was Lageman who passed Swets and van Kempen on the third lap and now finished fourth. Swets had also passed van Kempen and was now in fifth place. The main question now was: How far back would Simons and Muilwijk be able to return. It was Simons who was the first to return to the top five and a little later she was followed by Muilwijk. Once he arrived in third place, the gap was too big for Simons with Braam and Van der Werff. Van der Werff had pulled away from Braam and took both the heat and the day victory. Second place went to Braam, followed by Simons. Muilwijk passed van Dam two laps before the checkered flag and had pulled away from her to see the checkered flag in fourth. Van Dam again achieved fifth place.
