Van de Ven is doing good business in Spain
In Arroyomolinos, Nancy van de Ven did good business for the FIM WMX World Championship. During the fourth race of the season, the Zeelander came second during the first heat of the weekend. Courtney Duncan won for the first time this season. Behind Van de Ven, Daniela Guillen finished third to the delight of the home crowd. Lynn Valk did not get further than eighth place, followed by Shana van der Vlist.
Just like two weeks ago in Riola Sardo, Guillen managed to train the fastest. The Spaniard gets off to a good start, but so do Van de Ven and Gabriela Seisdedos! Duncan follows in fourth place ahead of Larissa Papenmeier and Amandine Verstappen, while the other Dutch ladies did not start well. Duncan quickly manages to work his way to second place, but Guillen, supported by many fans, struggles considerably. This is to the advantage of Van de Ven who can build up a small lead. The reigning champions need to find her rhythm and then little by little she makes up time on Van de Ven. The Spaniard can follow this pace during the first half of the match, but later she has to let go. Halfway through the match, the battle for the leading position begins and with more than six minutes left on the clock, Duncan attacks. She takes over the lead and wins the race with a safe lead over Van de Ven. Guillen finishes third ahead of Papenmeier who rides a lonely race. The top five is completed by Giorgia Blasigh. Van de Ven's 16-year-old teammate at Team Ceres71 achieved her best World Cup performance ever. Valk gets off to a bad start and then runs into problems in the initial phase. The Nijverdal native has to be satisfied with eighth place ahead of compatriot Van der Vlist. Verstappen crashed in the first lap and she did not get further than twelfth place. Britt Jans-Beken scores in 14th place, Danee Gelissen takes two points by crossing the finish line in 19th.
The second round will be held tomorrow morning at 11.55am, then we will know who will win the fourth race of the season.
