MON: Victory in Stevensbeek for René Albers
René Albers achieved the day's victory in Stevensbeek for the second time this year in the MX open inters class. After a second place in the first moto, Albers managed to win the second moto. Based on the second heat, he kept Jacky Tausch behind him, who finished second with the heat victory in the first heat and second place in the second heat. Bram van Hoek took third place on the podium.
Van den Hoek crashed in the leading position in the first heat and finished third. He also finished third in the second heat. Loeka Thonies also achieved fourth place in the daily rankings with two fourth places and Erik de Bruyn finished in fifth place in both the heats and the daily rankings.
In the MX2 inters class, the day's victory went to Jamie Lucas. After a third place in the first moto, Lucas won the second moto. Jelle Bankers ultimately had to settle for second place twice in the heats and also finished second in the daily rankings. Kevin Simons managed to win the first heat and took fourth place in the second heat. With this he completed the podium. Fourth and fifth place went to Ilja Rutten and Kevin Buitenhuis.
First heat
It was Tausch who had the best start ahead of van den Hoek, Thonies, Albers and de Bruyn. In the first lap it was Albers who moved up to third place and Simons came in fifth place at the expense of de Bruyn. Two laps later, De Bruyn managed to get past Simons again. After five laps, the front three had opened a gap of a good five seconds with Thonies, de Bruyn and Simons and came closer to each other during the heat. The decision in the battle for heat victory came in the penultimate round. It was van den Hoek who lost his leading position due to a fall to Tausch and fell back to third place. Tausch won the heat with one second ahead of Albers. The damage was limited for van den Hoek with third place. Thonies saw De Bruyn pass him by halfway through the heat. However, it was De Bruyn who made a small mistake on the penultimate lap and had to leave fourth place to Thonies. Behind it was Simons who followed Bankers as the strongest MX 2 rider.
Second heat
It was Albers who quickly made his intentions clear to the rest and took the lead ahead of Tausch, van den Hoek, Krijn van Vroenhoven and de Bruyn. While the first three managed to hold on to their position, Lucas and Thonies soon followed in fourth and fifth. The gaps between Albers, Tausch and van den Broek slowly but surely widened and no more position changes took place here. Albers won the heat ahead of Tausch. Van den Hoek choked halfway through the heat and had to be careful not to come under pressure from Lucas and Thonies. Ultimately, van den Hoek quickly had it under control and crossed the finish line in third. Lucas saw Thonies pass him by halfway through the heat and just managed to keep Bankers behind him to take both the heat and the day victory in the MX 2 inters.
