Jago Geerts wins the first series in Maggiora, Everts finished fourth
The slightly legendary Maggiora Park is the setting for the 7 this weekendde Motocross World Championship race. The first series of MX2 has just been ridden and was won by Jago Geerts. Liam Everts, who was on great form, scored a very nice fourth place.
Last night's rain made for a slippery circuit and only one real dry line. The holeshot went to Guadagnini, but after just a few corners he crashed and took Tom Vialle, Thibault Benistant and Kevin Horgmo into the skirmishes. Geerts then took the lead with Stephen Rubini and Kay De Wolf in his wake. Vialle had to resume in eighth place.
Liam Everts got off to a very good start and finished sixth after one lap. Then Kay De Wolf and Kay Karssemakers crashed, causing Everts to move up two places and suddenly be in P4. Guadagnini was not having his day and in the meantime he slid into the Italian plain twice more and disappeared to the rear. He gave up and went to the pits disappointed.
After a small mistake by Everts, De Wolf was able to move up one spot again. Everts still rode in an excellent fifth place. But then Kay De Wolf lost control on a jump so that he crashed into the flank and Liam Everts ended up in P4 again. Then he got Tom Vialle in his wheel. With three laps to go, the Diga Procross KTM rider had to grit his teeth not to lose his place to the Frenchman.
Jago Geerts remained clear on the treacherous circuit and was able to maintain a safe lead over Rubini and Isak Gifting. A fantastic Liam Everts showed what he is made of and scored an excellent fourth place in this first series.
