The Rognée circuit on the eve of a second life?
The “Les Marnières” circuit in Rognée closed its doors about ten years ago. The infrastructure has been maintained since then. The club still hopes that it will be able to reopen its doors. Motocross machines could soon return to the famous circuit located in the municipality of Walcourt, in the province of Namur.
Since the closure of the Hélécine circuit, Walloon motocross riders have been particularly disadvantaged in finding a training track within a reasonable distance from their home. In this context, those in charge of the ASBL Moto Cross Club de Rognée are trying to revive activity on the “Les Marnières” track. Setbacks have piled up and the pandemic has delayed the project by another two years.
Currently there is no longer any question of new infrastructures, but only a request for reopening. “We prefer no subsidies and do not want to waste years on administrative procedures. Our file is well organized and meets all the new standards that are in force,” assures Concetta D’Eletto.
Prior to the environmental impact report, an information meeting was organized this week in Walcourt. “Our goal is to reopen the Rognée circuit as it was before. No buildings will be built. Exits will be added at the back of the circuit,” David Baratucci confirmed in front of the sometimes worried local residents.
The usage program provides for four days of operation per week, excluding Sunday, as well as four consecutive days of operation per month, two organizations of three or four days of operation per year and no operating restrictions for quiet driving days. “The project plans to keep the circuit dedicated to children and the development of areas reserved for hiking, mountain biking and vehicles that do not emit noise,” added David Baratucci.
