Will the Belgians not make it to the Motocross of Nations?
In the history of the MXoN it has happened a number of times that the Belgian delegation had to “rake” to find money for the long-distance trip. This will also be the case in 2022 because the trip to Red Bud in the US will cost a lot more than budgeted in advance.
In a motocross country like Belgium, it is almost inconceivable that they will not go to the Nations, but this is the harsh reality of 2022. National coach Johan Boonen cannot get the budget together and currently sees no solutions. Due to the current crisis, the amount needed to ship the team and engines to America has almost doubled.
80.000 euros are needed and the budget only reaches half. So Boonen is still looking for 40.000 euros to get the Red Knights into Red Bud. The corona crisis and Putin's reckless invasion of Ukraine have caused prices to rise sharply. Everything has become more expensive. It seems almost a certainty that Liam Everts, Jago Geerts and Jeremy van Horebeek are the drivers who will be selected, but first 40.000 euros must be found.
Where Johan Boonen will find the money is unclear, but at the moment a fundraising round via crowdfunding seems to be the only possible solution. Who's sticking their neck out?
