Geerts takes second GP victory in a row in Maggiora!
Jago Geerts only needed a second place in the revival - after winning the first series - to book his second consecutive victory of the season. This causes it to run “the Jag” six points ahead of title rival Tom Vialle who won race 2. Frenchman Stephen Rubini (2-6) took the first GP podium of his career.
The second round started perfectly for GP rookie Kay Karssemakers. The KTM UK rider beat Tom Vialle in a millimeter sprint for the holeshot. Jago Geerts was third ahead of Kay De Wolf and Simon Längenfelder. Although the track was slightly drier than in the opener, it was still muddy and mainly on one dry line.
After Vialle took over the lead, he immediately pushed hard to clear a gap. Behind him, however, the race was colored by two Dutchmen: Kay De Wolf dropped from P4 to P7 after an early mistake. However, the Husqvarna factory rider fought back excellently. He had to tolerate home rider Guadagnini for a while, but he too would make a mistake in his turn.
An excellent Karssemakers held his position for more than three rounds before he had to bow his head to Geerts. Kay would eventually finish ninth and set a personal milestone in the MX10 World Championship with a 2th place overall!
While Jago came back to Vialle's wheel in the final phase, but an overtaking maneuver was no longer possible. After a fiercely fought second series, former European champion Rubini (Ship to Cycle Honda SR Motoblouz) only needed a sixth place to earn his very first World Cup top-3.
Liam Everts, who surprised with a fantastic P4 in race 1, had a poorer start and came in 13th after a regular race. With an 8th place in the final standings, he achieved his best World Cup result so far. In the World Championship standings, 17-year-old Kay De Wolf remains fourth, with equal points compared to the Dane Mikkel Haarup. The Big Van World MTX Kawasaki rider finished sixth today (7-5).
