Elzinga loses the lead to Toendel
With a first and second place, Cornelius Toendel won the third race of the European 250cc Championship. The Fantic rider wins the race in Maggiora ahead of teammate Haakon Osterhagen (3-1) and David Braceras (5-4). Rick Elzinga loses the lead in the standings, he only scores in the first heat with a seventh place. Lucas Coenen (2-15) scores both rounds, as does Dave Kooiker (16-19). Marcel Conijn scores three points in the second round by crossing the finish line in 18th.
The conditions are completely different than during the first heat. The circuit has received a lot of rain and the mud provides an ideal line. Osterhagen takes the best start ahead of fellow countryman Toendel. Eddie Jay Wade starts the race third for Braceras while Coenen crashes on the starting line.
Nothing happens at the front and Andrea Bonacorsi takes third ahead of Braceras and the very strong Camden McLellan.
This championship will continue next week on the sand circuit of Riola Sardo. Toendel has a 17 point lead over Elzinga.
