Bens/van Leuken supreme in Gemert
Last Sunday the fourth match for the Protempo Cup was scheduled in Gemert. On the Wolfsbosch circuit, the day's victory went to Aaron Bens / Joep van Leuken with two heat victories. Second place was achieved with a second and fourth place in the heats by Alex Brusselers/Jimmy van Gennip. Björn van den Heuij/Jens Vincent were able to take their place on the lowest step of the podium with a sixth and second place in the heats. Based on the second round, they kept Roger Vlot/Wiljan van Hees behind them. The Belgian combination Nick de Schepper/Djordy Gielkens completed the top five.
First heat
It was Bens/van Leuken who immediately took the initiative, followed by Brusselers/van Gennip, Frans van Rooij/Haske Maas, De Schepper/Gielkens and Vlot/Van Hees. In the first full lap, Patrick Greup/Mark van Deutekom managed to take over fifth place. It wasn't until halfway through the heat that these positions changed. De Schepper/Gielkens managed to get past van Rooij/Maas and took over third place. In the following round it was Greup/Van Deutekom who ran into problems and fell outside the top five. It was again Vlot/van Hees who came through in fifth place and took over fourth place a little later. The differences at the front had now been made and Bens/van Leuken crossed the finish line with a wide lead. Brusselers/van Gennip came second unthreatened. De Schepper/Gielkens again had a large lead over Vlot/van Hees. Van Rooij/Maas managed to stay ahead of Van den Heuij/Vincent.
Second heat
It was now van den Heij/Vincent who had the best start ahead of Brusselers/van Gennip, Bens/van Leuken, Greup/van Deutekom and van Rooij/Maas. For the neutral viewer there was now more tension in the heat, as the combinations now stayed quite close together with the exception of Bens/van Leuken. They managed to get past Brusselers/van Gennip and Van den Heuij/Vincent in the third round and then quickly took a lead. This allowed the duo to finish the last lap calmly to achieve the heat victory for Van den Heuij/Vincent. Vlot/Maas passed Brusselers/van Gennip in the penultimate lap and were unable to close the gap with van den Heuij/Vincent. Greup/van Deutekom were in fourth place for a while during the heat, but eventually followed almost seven seconds from Brusselers/van Gennip in fifth place.
In the sidecar nationals it was Max Bevers/Tayim Kaethoven who were supreme and managed to take a double heat victory despite some setbacks. Rik Senders/Mies de Louw finished second and third in the heats. Leopold Lenaerts/Joey Verhoeven achieved fourth and second place in the heats and were thus placed on the lowest step of the podium.
