Bax/Cermak win ONK Sidecar Masters Rhenen
Etienne Bax/Ondrej Cermak won the ONK Sidecar Masters in Rhenen. With the win in heat 1 and second place in the 2nd heat, they almost scored the full prize. Van Werven/Van den Boogaart finished second and third in the heats and took second place in the day's results. Veldman/Janssens came in sixth place in the chaotic 1st heat and won the 2nd company, placing them third in the day's results.
Hermans/Musset took the holeshot in the first heat and were immediately followed by Keuben/Badaire. Van Werven/Van den Boogaart were also good at three. Behind this it was Veldman and Bax who both had their sights set on the full loot. In the third lap Bax/Cermak finally took the lead at the expense of Hermans. At first they seemed to be moving away a bit, but halfway through Hermans and Bax moved closer again and a nice battle arose for the lead with Veldman/Janssens in third place. However, at that moment a chaotic phase began in which many sidecars got stuck, including in the top ten. Bax ultimately kept a cool head and won the heat. Van Werven/Van den Boogaart came second and very surprisingly Weijers/Van der Putten crossed the line in third.
The entire cross track was leveled between the heats and the second heat started under perfect conditions. Now Bax immediately took the lead, followed by Veldman. These two sidecars would fight out an exciting duel for the lead all the way to the checkered flag! The audience held their breath as Bax and Veldman flew wheel to wheel across the track several times. Ultimately, Veldman/Janssens would win and this meant they could still reach the final podium in third place after a poor sixth place earlier in the day. Bax came second just behind Veldman and this was more than enough for the day's win in Rhenen. Van Werven/Van den Boogaard rode tight again and now finished third, which meant that Van Werven/Van den Boogaart were awarded second place in Rhenen. In the ONK standings, Bax is slightly ahead of Veldman, but anything can still happen in the remaining matches. The next ONK is on June 5 in Varsseveld.
