Tropepe wins, Meuwissen the best Lowlander
In Arco di Trento, Giuseppe Tropepe won the first round during the second race of the European Open Championship. The Husqvarna rider managed to win ahead of compatriot Stefano Pezzuto and Michael Sandner. The best Laaglander was Raf Meuwissen, the Limburger finished eighth ahead of Jens Getteman. Sven Van der Mierden (15th) and Rene De Jong (20th) also managed to get into the points.
As leader in the standings, Michael Sandner immediately takes the lead, the Austrian is followed by Stefano Pezzuto and Meuwissen. In the first corner there is a crash involving Marcel Stauffer and Jose Butron! Fortunately, everyone can continue on their way. Sandner tries to take distance but Pezzuto immediately increases the pressure. With success because before the start of the first full lap the leader makes a mistake. Pezzuto takes over the lead for Tropepe. The 24-year-old Husqvarna rider let Pezzuto set the pace for almost 15 minutes before taking over the lead. The former GP rider wins this first round with a wide lead. Pezzuto is second ahead of Sandner, who is still fighting back from eighth place. Stauffer and Butron do the same as both cut their way through the field towards the top five. The 20-year-old Stauffer returns to fourth place, followed by the Spaniard. Meuwissen loses many places in the second half of the race and he finishes eighth ahead of Getteman. Unfortunately, there are no points for Thomas Vermijl (25th), Freek van der Vlist (28th), Twan van Essen (32nd) and Mike Bolink (35th).
The second round will be held tomorrow morning, at 9:45 am and then we will know who wins the second race of the season.
