MXGP Kegums: Tim Gajser wins first heat
The first series of MXGP has just been held in a rainy and gray Kegums. The series victory went to Tim Gajser who was able to parry an ultimate attempt by Prado for the series victory.
The Spaniard Jorge Prado once again squeezed out a holeshot and immediately got Pauls Jonass and Tim Gajser in his wheel. Mitch Evans had to quickly return to the pits for new glasses, while the Yamaha boys Maxime Renaux and Glenn Coldenhoff battled it out to improve their positions.
On the fifth lap, Gajser decided to increase the pressure and appeared under Jonass' rear fender. At that moment, Prado had a small lead of just under two seconds. At that moment, Jeremy Van Horebeek entered the top ten. The first three riders are evenly matched and ride at almost the same pace. Calvin Vlaanderen then slipped when he was in fourteenth place.
With six minutes of the match left, it was far from certain who would win the series. Prado, Jonass and Gajser both had a victory in mind. The Slovenian was then able to pass the Latvian home rider on lap 12 and took second place. Gajser was not satisfied and immediately dived into the rear wheel of Prado. On the starting strip, Prado was let down and Gajser moved into the lead position.
With three laps of racing left, Coldenhoff was able to get past teammate Seewer and was then in P5. On the last lap, Prado disappeared from the front due to a crash in a last-ditch attempt to take Gajser's lead. He hit the Slovenian's rear wheel and crashed. Gajser wins the series ahead of Pauls Jonass and Ruben Fernandez. Jorge Prado was classified twelfth.
