Bax/Cermak win the first World Cup heat in Markelo!
Etienne Bax/Ondreij Cermak have won the first heat of the GP Sidecar Cross of the Netherlands. Veldman/Janssens finished second and Varik/Kunnas third, far behind.
The holeshot went to Bax/Cermak who immediately ran away from the pursuers. The sidecar bounced over the large holes in the Markelo forest in a controlled manner to take the win with a lead. No one could match Bax/Cermak who seemed from another planet and will look back on their World Cup overture with satisfaction. The battle for second place was definitely there. After the start, Vanluchene/Bax took second place, but as the heat progressed she fell to the back to finish the heat in fifth place. Veldman/Janssens then took over second place after more than ten minutes of competition when they had first outwitted Varik from fourth place. Varik first dropped back one place further when Van Werven also came alongside. However, Varik/Kunnas were tough and fought back to third place. For a moment it even seemed that they were closing in on second man Veldman, but he gave a little extra gas to shake off the Estonian sidecar. Veldman came in second, followed by the surprisingly good driving Varik/Kunnas. Van Werven/Van den Boogaart also rode a good race and finished fourth. Vanluchene/Bax came fifth, who were undoubtedly not satisfied with this. Wilkinson/Millard rode sixth in no man's land for almost the entire race and also managed to finish here. The surprisingly good Weijers/Van der Putten took seventh place. Keuben/Lebraton were in a good position, but were forced to pit and fought back from the back to nineteenth place, just grabbing some points ahead of Vos/Susebeek, who took one point on their debut. Leferink/Beleckas also rode in the top ten, but fell back after a big crash. Sanders/Rostingt did not finish the race and had to leave the race with bad luck.
