20 years ago, speaker Jos Vanluyd left us
SpeakerThe motocross enthusiasts with some kilometers on the clock undoubtedly know him. And if they didn't know him, they would certainly know his voice. Exactly 20 years ago today, speaker Jos Vanluyd passed away.
How often are his specific advertising messages chanted as a reminder of a time when motocross was still motocross. Those messages are almost mummified as one-liners and are in the collective memory of motocross-loving Flanders.
Vanluyd made his mark on cross country as a speaker but also as manager of a number of pilots. It is nice to hear that his influence, his vocabulary and his way of announcing continues to live on in the current generation of speakers. How often did he start a confirmation of a previous sentence with the word 'well now'. Jos had a big motorsport and children's heart. In April 2000, the provincial Limburg training camp was organized mainly under his impulse. Before 2002, Jos had again promised to support this with full commitment. However, he died on March 12, 2002.
Up there on the BMB jury bus, we still see you standing with your inseparable aviator glasses on your nose, inspired by the cross, exciting the audience and always alert not to forget any sponsors. The fall of the starting gate was also the moment for him to step up his game. The distance between the gate and the first corner was one long scream of heartfelt ecstasy for a sport he loved through and through. He encouraged you to sit down during the break for a tasty deep-fried snack from Olen …….. “because what OVI makes ……… that tastes good!”
