Geerts is recovering well after bad luck in the first moto
Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider Jago Geerts finished seventh in the MX2 international race in Lacapelle-Marival, France on Sunday. The Balenaar recovered well after bad luck in the first series (eleventh), with solid results in the second series (third) and the Superfinal (sixth).
Many riders – including Geerts – experienced problems at the start of the first MX2 series. Geerts: “I still don't know exactly what happened, but at least ten riders slid away on the iron starting plate. Me most of all. I just managed to avoid a crash.”
The Belgian had to work his way from the back of the suit to the front. Jago made up a lot of places in the first round, but then slipped. His gloves were full of mud, which made it a lot more difficult to hold onto his handlebars afterwards. Geerts wisely decided not to take any risks and crossed the line in 11th place.
Jago shot away much better on his YZ250FM in the second MX2 series. The Belgian immediately settled behind the Dutch De Wolf and Van de Moosdijk. Geerts: “I stayed in third place for the entire race. I rode my own pace and didn't want to take any risks on the treacherous track.”
Same story in the Superfinal, where the MX2 riders had to compete against the MXGP riders on their more powerful 450 machines. Geerts again came out of the starting gate well and was able to immediately move up a few places in the first round. “When I got to sixth position, I decided not to push too hard anymore because the circuit was becoming more and more dangerous. Don't forget that this is just a preliminary match. All in all it was a good race, good training.”
